Choreography: Małgorzata Matuszewska
Music: Maurice Ravel
TT NTF: Karolina Łucznik, Małgorzata Matuszewska, Anna Ochman, Agata Teodorczyk
“What story does the fan have to tell? Certainly, everyone will interpret its speech differently. Bolero by Teatr Tańca NTF is primarily a story about a woman – changeable, passionate and full of life”. Justyna Stanisławska
Maurice Ravel’s piece is a styled version of the Spanish dance called bolero. It was composed in 1928 for the Ida Rubinstein ballet company and the first ever choreography in the history of dance was made by Bronisława Niżyńska. Małgorzata Matuszewska transports a classic theme into the realm of the contemporary stage in an original way and infuses it with a new and fresh dimension.
The idea behind the performance is a dance dialogue of two colours – white and black corresponding to the ying/yang concept. The key element of the composition is a dialogue of fans (white and black), starting with percussion sounds, via playing with the musical line, its dynamics and the hidden symbols.
