CST / PROGRAMME NOVEMBER 2017

Tuesday October 24th, 2017 / News, Program 2017

The 2017  Programme is divided into two cycles: MORZE MOŻLIWOŚCI (THE VAST SEA OF OPPORTUNITY) and OKO CYKLONU (THE EYE OF THE CYCLONE)

THE VAST SEA OF OPPORTUNITY

The shows and events presented in this particular cycle will feature various techniques and varying approach to contemporary dance. The performances in this cycle will aim to present different treatment of the modern dance techniques, premieres, young artists’ first appearances in the sphere of contemporary dance art and performance art; also included are presentations by acclaimed, well-known artists who cooperate with the younger generation, and, last but not least, performances and installation art events for children.

THE EYE OF THE CYCLONE

A Centre of stormy events. A Centre of important matters. A Centre  that can sometimes be dangerous, shocking, astounding. The performances presented in this cycle undertake vital problems in very many differing ways. The artists use improvisation, construct tension/expression by means of micro-movements, make use of performative tools, combine various dance styles and various spheres of the arts: dance/theatre/film/visual arts – they employ video materials, put up installations or act in an empty space. One special trait connects the whole of the work by our artists: it is like the eye of the cyclone – it takes up crucial  dilemmas, rough ones, sometimes ominous, intense and ultimate but very well-known to us all.

THE SEA OF OPPORTUNITY: “My own interview® Fanny Panda”/ Edyta Kozak

Conception and realization: Edyta Kozak

Production: Komuna//Warszawa

Video: Wojtek Kaniewski

Trailer:

The performance is an attempt to create a completely new quality, a re-interpretation  of theatre and dance classics.   Edyta Kozak, following Jérôme Bel, a French choreographer and creator of the non-dance concept, treats dance as a pretext to a meeting and conversation on social, artistic and personal subjects. The spectacle is in the form of a lecture (lecture-performance).  A fantasy of looking for a new profession for unemployed dancers  tells a story of dancers who lost their right to early retirement. The main theme of this artist’s work here is a dancer deprived of his/her role, a human being with his/her convictions and personal biographies. Everything spiced with humour and empathy, a hallmark of Edyta Kozak’s creative oueuvre.

After the performance we invite you to a meeting with artists

The meeting will lead: Hanna Raszewska-Kursa

THE SEA OF OPPORTUNITY: “Starting with Activity” / Maria Stokłosa

Choreography, realization: Maria Stokłosa

Cooperation: Alicja Bielawska, Maija Reeta Raumanni, Katarzyna Słoboda, Eleonora Zdebiak i inni.

Production: Katarzyna Sztarbała

Trailer:

Maria Stokłosa does not attempt o create a closed form performance. The point of departure here is in the development of movement improvisation practice which changes its shape according to the place, time and the audience, and the energy the audience provides. The project started in 2015 when a Philadelphian artist, Meg Foley, invited Maria Stokłosa to cooperate in the development of practice in Action is primary. At present, both choreographers continue work on their solo projects and exchange results of research during regular online meetings. In the shaping of the new presentations Maria Stokłosa is assisted by the artists she invites to take part: a sculptress Alicja Bielawska, a playwright Eleonora Zdebiak, a light director Karolina Gębska and some ‘witnesses’ – regularly changing artists and theoreticians, such as an analyst of dance Katarzyna Słoboda, choreographers Maija Reeta Raumanni and Anna Nowicka. In the time from May till December 2017, about forty performances are to be designed. Starting with Activity is a spectacle which will never have a premiere and there will never any end product come into existence. Its energy, stemming from a constant negotiation of one’s own identity, comes  across as ability to create transformation in which a  continuous change of attention is the only permanent element.

THE EYE OF THE CYCLONE: “Death. Practice and variations”/ Renata Piotrowska-Auffret

Idea, choreography: Renata Piotrowska-Auffret

Realization: Renata Piotrowska- Auffret

Dramaturgy: Bojana Bauer

Light: Ewa Garniec i Joanna Leśnierowska

Light production: Łukasz Kędzierski

Production: Fundacja Burdąg

Partners: Centrum w Ruchu, Wawerskie Centrum Kultury, Centrum Sztuki Współczesnej – Sala Laboratorium, Narodowe Centrum Tańca w Paryżu, La Briqueterie – CDC du Val-de-Marne, Teatr Soho z Warszawy, STSpot w Jokohamie, Art Stations Foundation z Poznania

THE EYE OF THE CYCLONE: “HUNT” / Weronika Pelczyńska

Performance art spectacle “Hunt” presents a process of revealing the records of reality in contemporary bodies that are incessantly followed and tracked down. However, it is not the body and its biological existence that provide platform for our experience. Such place is our language by means of which our experiences are either verbalized or became inaccessible to us. We stop understanding the signals of our own body. It is under the surface of the language or outside its  reach that bodies live and it is on the bodies  that the inscriptions of fear are carved, illegible, impenetrable to us. Revealing the experiences of the body, hidden and excluded from the social discourse, is vital for the understanding of the reality in which the distribution and management of fear have become the standard of exercising power.

Contemporary government tactics also have to do with the spreading of fear of terrorist attempts and instigation of anxiety over invasion by “non-western foreigners”. Economically, we are in a state of permanent debtors and it is with apprehension that we  bypass news about capitalist practices outside the western world. Continuation of class and race divides, not accepted by the spreading western system of values, makes us silent witnesses to all we would not want to accept. The subjects/bodies managed in this way have to negotiate with their own and someone else’s  fear all the time.

“Human rights” conventions do not guarantee life without fear. Fear means guilt and is an inner problem of individual human beings. We internalize and inscribe in our bodies the sense of lack of values on accounts of the fear we feel. We want medicine and police to bring us peace, we want tons of psychoactive drugs and incessant invigilation. The primeval fear that we  are born with is used  and transformed into a political and social experience which (de)forms and transforms our bodies.

Everything that belongs to us and is private, is subject to politicization because it becomes a tool with which the people in power can interfere without restraint in our life. Culturally undisclosed and symbolically unuttered fear of birth that each mother and child has to deal with, is stolen and transformed into a trauma on which it is easy to build compensatory need for violence.

THE EYE OF THE CYCLONE: „You Have Your Voice” / Izabela Chlewińska

Choreogrphy and realization: Izabela Chlewińska

Technique : Tomek Bergmann

Support : Fundacja Burdąg, Centrum w Ruchu

trailer:

In a centre of electronic and acoustic receivers, digital delay, microphones and samplers, a potential citizen speaks up, taking the floor on a matter  important to him. In order to produce sound, he adopts various positions,  to give the body an adequate form in accordance with the sound. With time, he begins to use not only his body but also the technology surrounding him and thus manages to achieve bolder effects in his search.

The recent spectacle ‘You have your voice’ created by Izabela Chlewińska is a result of years long research on voice emission as an element of movement practice. It is a solo work for body, voice  and space – a laboratory  transformation of the  quality of all we see and hear.

Trailer:

What’s your name?

Where do you come from?

Where were you born?

What was your most beautiful experience connected with being a woman/man?

What does it mean to you to be a woman/ a man?

How much of your mother/ father do you see in yourself?

Performance about femininity, not only for women. Its main subject is identity connected with being a woman or being a man. To what extent is it restricting, and to what extent is it liberating? What are the good and weak points of being a woman/man, today, in Warsaw, in Poland, in Europe? How can we change,  transform and develop it? These questions posed by the artists are difficult sometimes, and also very simple at the same time. They are  connected   by the sincerity of the artistic utterance and an endeavour to reach the truth. This is a project of an identity and social character to a concept by Agata Życzkowska and choreography by Magdalena Przybysz, in a new configuration HOTELOKO movement makers with Katarzyna Kafel and Rafał Urbacki.
