DANCES WITH SCULPTURES EXHIBITION
The “Dances with sculptures” project is carried out by artist and art historian Piotr JANOWCZYK for the Dance Art Center in Warsaw and it envisages a confrontation of contemporary choreographers, dancers and people practicing specialist movement techniques with the art of the classical world sculpture.
The exhibition held at the ELEKTOR Gallery will display film footage and photographs illustrating the search for the anatomic form inspired by the sculpture by August Zamoyski entitled Ich dwoje [The Two of Them]. The curator invited to the project one of the most interesting duos working in the Movement technique, namely Marta ZINSERLING and Michał Baba BACIŃSKI. On display at the exhibition will also be a documentation of original sculptures by Andrzej Zamoyski done by Piotr JAMSKI.
One hundred years ago exactly, in 1919, the young Andrzej ZAMOYSKI became fascinated with the futurist movement and made the first attempts at creating the Ich dwoje sculpture. He would return to the project many times over the following years and created a series of works under the same title. The sculptures are considered to be outstanding examples of avant-garde sculpture of the first half of the 20th century. The backdrop for the works was the relationship of the sculptor with a Viennese dancer Rita SACCHETTO who experimented with formist dance. Their tumultuous relationship had a strong impact on the sculptor’s work and the sculpture Ich dwoje is testament to the closeness of artists from the worlds of dance and sculpture.
