PROGRAMME 2017 / ART PRESENTATIONS

The programme of the CST Dance  Art Centre offers a comprehensive survey of the contemporary dance in  its broadest spectrum: it includes dance improvisation,  shows based on structure, art installation work, interdisciplinary shows, performance art shows. After every performance a conversation will take place between the artists and the audience. In 2017 the performances will take place every Monday from September till December. In the coming years, the programme will be developed to embrace other spheres  such as education, animation, theory and critique of dance.

The 2017  Programme is divided into two cycles: MORZE MOŻLIWOŚCI (THE VAST SEA OF OPPORTUNITY) and OKO CYKLONU (THE EYE OF THE CYCLONE)

THE VAST SEA OF OPPORTUNITY

The shows and events presented in this particular cycle will feature various techniques and varying approach to contemporary dance. The performances in this cycle will aim to present different treatment of the modern dance techniques, premieres, young artists’ first appearances in the sphere of contemporary dance art and performance art; also included are presentations by acclaimed, well-known artists who cooperate with the younger generation, and, last but not least, performances and installation art events for children.

THE EYE OF THE CYCLONE

A Centre of stormy events. A Centre of important matters. A Centre  that can sometimes be dangerous, shocking, astounding. The performances presented in this cycle undertake vital problems in very many differing ways. The artists use improvisation, construct tension/expression by means of micro-movements, make use of performative tools, combine various dance styles and various spheres of the arts: dance/theatre/film/visual arts – they employ video materials, put up installations or act in an empty space. One special trait connects the whole of the work by our artists: it is like the eye of the cyclone – it takes up crucial  dilemmas, rough ones, sometimes ominous, intense and ultimate but very well-known to us all.

According to  Eva Illouz, an Israeli theoretician of contemporary emotionalism, the contemporary culture and relations developed within culture are characterized by cold intimacies. Emotions are treated as a weakness, an uncontrollable element, escaping the rational tools of cognition (especially in a feminine context). On the other hand, Arlie Hochschild in her essay “Love and Gold” stresses that empathy and women’s ability to love has become a commodity on the market that is distributed and treated as a sustainable source of energy.

Agnieszka Kryst’s work entitled “Scores:Partytury”, expresses her interest in emotionality as a creative potential, and in manifestation of freedom as a process of self-reform through minimization and maximization, restraining and freeing of a single gesture, thought or emotion.

The “Scores:Partytury” spectacle is a result of an intensified and thorough study of a movement technique in which emotions and their physicality both become  a tool of conscious choice used in the  composition. The basic principle of the movement technique and practice devised by Agnieszka Kryst consists in an incessant transformation of a body in moving in time and space. Here, transformation is understood as an opportunity for development, potential and a conscious creative choice. It is accompanied by a consistent practice of consciousness which allows of noticing the smallest changes in movement ,thus opening a way to conscious shaping of the created material. This is transformation as a permanent process of change and  coming into existence. Transformation as a purposeful work with time and space. Transformation that is a rational tool of resistance. A conscious composition of movement material in a real time presents emotions as a tool of resistance and creation of form, and not as an involuntary, instinctive reaction to a stimulus or an adaptation function.
